[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Avatar Effect" by Ess-Jee Rautenbach.]

Are you ready to discover your avatar so that you can not only live a purposeful but also a fulfilling life? If yes, then please check out the book The Avatar Effect. The author, Ess-Jee Rautenbach, is a life coach with over 12 years of experience, and he takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery, purposeful living, reflections, and story-telling, therefore unlocking one's avatar. An avatar is the embodiment of one's strengths, skills, and unique qualities.

My favourite part of the book is when the author mentions inspirational stories, sighting examples from both the Bible and modern-day successful people. He used biblical stories and celebrities to show how finding your purpose leads to embracing one's true self and fulfilment. He mentioned stories of Joseph, Job, Dwayne Johnson, Steve Jobs, and Walt Disney, among others.

One of the things I liked is that the author was straightforward and didn't deviate from the main topic of discussion. I liked this mostly when he was discussing myths and misconceptions surrounding the concept of knowing one's self. He stated the myths and also the reality of why one should know oneself. He didn't deviate from the main topic by giving unnecessary explanations. The lesson I learned from this is that knowing yourself is something you should strive for because if you do, you will live a happier life, make better choices, and understand what is necessary for you.

The book was also visually appealing and beautifully written. There are different images in the book, and they are so beautiful. The moment I laid my eyes on the book, they were the first thing I fell in love with. Not only that, but the images also align with some of the stories being narrated by the author. In simple terms, the images made this book more enjoyable.

I also liked the reflection exercises provided at the end of every chapter. The author lists down questions for the reader to answer after every chapter, and most of them are personalised questions about what the author discusses. He also provides references to help one do extra research on every topic discussed in the book.

There is nothing I dislike about this book, so I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to anyone interested in finding their avatar, because that's the book's major focus. If you enjoy self-help books, then this book is also for you because it can help you embrace your true self and also find your purpose.

The opening pages of Ess-Jee Rautenbach’s brainy and deft work, “Avatars of Destiny: The Quest for Reality’s Edge,” introduce us to a world and a time we have read about as it slowly immerses us into an off-kilter universe, one that is unfamiliar, a magical realm full of wonder and mystery where an epic saga unfolds before our eyes.

At a time when the world found itself engulfed in the chaos and turmoil of the Second World War, away from the prying eyes of the world, Italian engineers and scientists were busy working on an ambitious task to reverse engineer the alien technology from a mysterious craft that had landed on Italian soil a decade ago. This clandestine project was a secret weapon to help Italy claim victory, turning the tide of the war in its favor. However, their plans to alter the face of reality are cut short abruptly and they are forced to abandon their plans.

Unbeknownst to them, their covert activities have given rise to a mysterious portal leading to a strange place. Decades later, a mission intended to revive the groundbreaking project goes wrong, causing the Avatar effect, altering the fate of the entire world, and putting the lives of those in Elyria, the extraordinary realm, in grave danger. A team of four champions with emotional wounds but extraordinary abilities: Elara, a wise elf-borg; Zara, an alchemist; Thorne, the Wolf, an embodiment of the animal he loves and with unmatched prowess; and Kael, a magic wielder, are inexplicably brought together by the Avatar effect. They embark on a dangerous pursuit, pitting them against a ruthless and powerful enemy, to find the missing pieces of the Nexus key, an old artifact that could cause a great shift in their world. Or carnage, depending on who wields it.

Rautenbach takes up command of his craft with insight and verve, offering chapter summaries and lessons to be learned from these pages. At its heart, the plot puts forth the moral code for modern society, exploring key themes such as loyalty, resilience, and sacrifice, even in the face of darkness. The book’s fascination lies in its impressive characterizations, effective balance between realism and imagination, and its clear and concise prose. Rautenbach expertly throws nearly everything into his work.

We find rich historical details, science, technology, magical elements, eccentric characters, and a vibrant and enchanted realm that much of the story is set in. The villain, a formidable sorcerer with modern ambition, is well-developed and presented as a power-hungry tyrant in the book’s potent storyline. Rautenbach transcends above well-worn tropes comfortably, making this work all the more immersive. Written for young adult readers (16+), “Avatars of Destiny: The Quest for Reality’s Edge” will captivate readers of all ages who enjoy fantasy books with scope and simmering intensity. It is a narrative with the power to make us probe our inner selves.
